Ten People You Should Be Following On Twitter.
- @rainnwilson He plays Dwight on The Office. He's funny. Follow him.
- @KeithOlbermann Keith just joined Twitter. If you consider yourself a "progressive", follow him. Good for jokes, MLB stuff, and possibly being on "Worst Twersons".
- @Roxy_n_Pearl Because they're Bulldogs, they're cute, and they tweet about the dog park!
- @NWF The National Wildlife Federation's official Twitter account. Helpful when you want to be informed on the recent Gulf oil spill & other important news.
- @iDharma Great daily Buddhist and social justice news, as well as dharma quotes. A great follow, even if you aren't a Buddhist!
- @maddow Rachel Maddow updates with breaking news and other comments on the daily political climate.
- @azizansari You absolutely MUST follow Aziz Ansari. Not only is he absolutely hysterical, he's also hosting the MTV Movie Awards this year. Oh! And he was in BUST Magazine this month-- he landed a spot in "Men We Love".
- @michaelianblack Michael Ian Black has had my heart since "Wet Hot American Summer", or probably earlier. Yeah, earlier.
- @breakingnews Okay, that's not a person. So why should you follow? Because sometimes it's nice to know things before other people do.
- @TheSexist A badass column (written by Amanda Hess) in The Washington City Paper now has a twitter. Follow her and then check out the blog: Sex & Gender In The District.
Oh, and then follow me.
Gulf Oil Spill -- How to Help
There is an oil leak the size of Delaware in the Gulf of Mexico. That's big. It's around 130 miles by 70 miles, and as of this morning, at least 23 sea turtles had washed ashore on the coast of Missisippi. Fishing has been banned from Louisiana to Florida. And by the way, the oil leak hasn't even been stopped yet. It isn't over.
So what can YOU do to help? It doesn't matter where you live. You can still help. From the The Huffington Post, some simple things you can do:
Follow the CrisisCamp Twitter List. This is a compilation of non-profit organizations and individuals updating on the oil leak and what you can do to help.
Send Barack Obama a message via National Wildlife Federation: Speak Up for Urgent Need to Restore Louisiana's Coastal Wetlands.
Twitter-ers to Follow:
This isn't going to go away. The leak is still gushing. It does not matter where you live-- this impacts you. It's impacting businesses, restaurants, wildlife, tourism, and the economy in general. Do what you can. A donation of just $5 can make a world of difference.
If you live in an effected area: To report oiled wildlife, please call 1-866-557-1401 and leave a message. Messages will be checked hourly. To discuss spill related damage, please call 1-800-440-0858. To report oiled shoreline or request volunteer information, please call 1-866-448-5816.

Thought of the Day
In Jesus Was An Immigrant, Would Republicans Deport Him?, over at GALiberal.com, Dustin posted some great quotes from the Bible:
- Exodus 22:21 “You shall not wrong or oppress a resident alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.”
- Exodus 23:9, “Do not oppress an alien; you yourselves know how it feels to be aliens, because you were aliens in Egypt.”
- Deuteronomy 1:16 “And I charged your judges at that time: Hear the disputes between your brothers and judge fairly, whether the case is between brother Israelites or between one of them and an alien."
The Pied Piper of Hützovina
The mate and I watched The Pied Piper of Hützovina several nights ago. The documentary was made by Pavla Fleischer as she followed Gogol Bordello's Eugene Hütz through Roma camps in Europe. He was born in 1972, in Boyarka, Ukraine to parents with Russian and Servo Roma ancestry. He and his family fled the country after Chernobyl, traveling from the Ukraine to Poland, Hungary, Austria and Italy, traveling through numerous Gypsy camps along the way. He arrived in Vermont in 1991, and soon after he moved to New York City where he started numerous punk bands. Gogol Bordello formed around 1999 and has been touring non-stop since. The band is made up of immigrants from anywhere you can think of-- Russia, Israel, Ethiopia, and Ecuador (to name a few).
Eugene also appeared in Wristcutters: A Love Story, playing himself alongside Patrick Fugit. He starred in Everything Is Illuminated with Elijah Wood, acting as Jonathan Safran Foer's translator. "You don't eat meat? Steak? Chickens? What about sausage?"
"What we're making isn't folk music, but savage intellectualism. We speak a language of a new world community that understands cultures can relate. So people who still speak of nationalism or racism or what separates us, they are inadequate for this time. Evolution goes on." -Eugene Hütz

What I'm Reading (Website Edition)
I thought I'd give you all a good idea of what websites I love and read on a (sometimes) daily basis. Check 'em out... they're all pretty fantastic. Here are my favorite recent articles from my favorite sites:
- Chicago Police Don't Give a Shit About Women. The sexism and plain hatred seen at Take Back the Night rallies around the country seems to be growing. Sad.
- Blogging Against Disablism Day: Addressing Ableist Language. Comments on "ableist language"-- what it is, what it means, and why you should stop.
- Scott Baio's Online Meltdown: A Complete Timeline. Yes, I still love this article. The things he and his wife said were downright appalling. And disturbing. And offensive. Poor Baios.
- In Defense of Lindsay Lohan. I honestly feel bad for Lindsay. She may have issues, but her father isn't making them any better (and neither is her mother). I pray she will eventually get the help she needs.
- Patton Oswalt Outraged At Joke-Stealing Comic. Watch both of the videos. Really. I can't believe this-- it's word-for-word theft. Amazing. (SIDE NOTE: I really dislike Huffington Post most of the time, but their Comedy section is usually worth my time).

"Confederate History Month"
"It needs to said, and it needs to be repeated--the first president to be murdered in this country's history was murdered by a white supremacist. We have to say this. It's not enough to think about what white racism costs black people, we have to think about what white racism costs white people."
-From The Atlantic, Ta-Nehisi Coates (the love of my life) writes on the assassination of Abraham Lincoln: Commemorating CHM: White Supremacy Killed Lincoln.
